Group Collaboration and Problem Solving

The first thing that I noticed when starting our assignment is the fact that no one replied to the page and nearly 9 days away, that shows no hope for our project. I don't like the fact you have to wait on others to speak or say "ok what do we need to do". Seems like someone has to always initiate the getting to know each other and keep them motivated to get something started. Pushing them to get this done might be a battle. The only thing I'd say that I like about group projects and collaborating would be meeting others, coming together and seeing what a group has accomplished. Learning to work together, communication, and dedication are critical factors in group collaboration. This week I have learned that sometimes you have to be that initiator in starting the conversation on what is to be done, when, and who is going to do what. I feel that this week is the most trying week because we haven't gotten too far and I would like to see people ask questions if they don't understand the assignment. Take the stick and ask for emails or phone numbers might be key in a situation like this. This week I plan to learn more about this class as well as our project, what is expected of us and how we can all do this together.

  1. My group is just starting to work together. I think a lot of people procrastinate and it's not a problem when they are working alone. But, when it comes to group projects, it hurts the group when people do that.

  2. I don't like adhering to other people's schedules either. I have things I'm very busy with (we are in the middle of moving and do not have internet hooked up at our new house yet, however the modem and computer are packed away) and am getting to the internet as often as possible but it out of my control at the momement. I am going to message my group members today and see how they respond. If there is not a timely response, I will just do the work myself when I can and post it to the wiki. We have to learn to work together for our grade, but if that doesn't happen we have to take the project into our own hands. However, we also have to be understanding that other people's schedules are not our own and as long as it is turned in by the time it's due then it's fine.

  3. Great Blog Post! I really enjoyed reading. I could defineltly understand your concern and fustration. I hope that everyone in your group take the time out to work together to get the task done. Working in a group and trying to callaborate to get a job done is one thing, when you are doing it in a strictly web based class it makes it extremly difficult.

  4. In life we have followers and then we have "leaders". Angie it appears as if you are a leader. Embrace that gift because it is gift that everyone can't have but a lot will try.
